How to add Polkadot to Metamask

Polkadot cannot be added directly to MetaMask because it is not an EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) blockchain. However, it is possible to integrate Polkadot with MetaMask by using MetaMask Snaps. Snaps are a feature that allows developers to extend MetaMask’s functionality, and there are Snaps available that enable MetaMask users to interact with Polkadot and other Substrate-based blockchains.

While MetaMask doesn’t natively support Polkadot, you can use Snaps to manage your Polkadot accounts and assets directly within MetaMask.

Alternatively, Polkadot also has wallet options that work similarly to MetaMask. Talisman and PolkaGate are popular Polkadot-compatible wallets available as browser extensions. These wallets provide similar functionality to MetaMask, allowing you to interact with Polkadot in a familiar environment.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to set up Talisman, a Polkadot-compatible wallet, to manage your Polkadot assets.

Step 1: Visit the Official Talisman Website

Go to the official Talisman website: https://talisman.xyz/

  Step 2: Download the Talisman Wallet

Click on the “Download Wallet” button on the homepage.         

Step 3: Add the Extension to Chrome

Select “Add to Chrome” to install the Talisman browser extension      

 Step 4: Start the Setup Process

Once installed, click “Get Started” to begin setting up your wallet.             

 Step 5: Create a Secure Password

Enter a strong password and click “Continue” to proceed.         

Step 6: Enter the Talisman Dashboard

Click “Enter Talisman” to access your wallet interface.         

Step 7: Add a New Account

Click on the “Add Account” button.

Step 8: Select Polkadot Account

Choose the “New Polkadot Account” tab.       

Step 9: Name Your Account

Enter your desired account name and click “Create”.        

Step 10: Acknowledge Security Terms

Click “Acknowledge and Continue” to proceed.     

Step 11: Save Your Recovery Phrase

Write down your recovery (seed) phrase and store it securely.

Step 12: Verify Your Recovery Phrase

Complete the verification process and click “Complete Verification”.
